Dersingham Business Memories
The Village Folk©
Here are some brief memories about Dersingham businesses that were recalled on a reflective post on the Dersingham Village Facebook Group.

The initial message by Dave Tomlinson triggered a number of others to add their thoughts:

Just thinking about what shops that there are no longer in our Village. We lost all petrol stations - Cox's BP, Greysons Cleveland, Shanks Shell, and the One on the corner of Post Office Rd. Rankins Groceries, Reg Houchens Coaches, 2 Gent barbers, Playfords Bakery, Hanfords Groceries and Ladies Hairdresser, Lynfords Corner, Parkers Corner Grocers, The Dun Cow, The Albert Victor, The White Horse, Stevens 'Chippy', Reynolds Nursery,  Dungers Coal Merchant,  Barclays Bank opposite the Police Station, Fred Eastons banger car sales (I got my first car from him) a vacant plot now, Ken Milton, butchers and Towers butcher along with Richard 'Dodgy' Dix, car sales, followed by Malcolm Gore.

The village joined in with:
Hills cycles on Post Office Road. It was previously Bennet's sweet that shop sold everything from knitting wool and zips to 1/2d sweets and all your grocery, those where the days.

The little sweet shop on Lynn Road opposite Manor Road. That was Pullen's, they did grocery bits as well, Doris Drew had it. Hubby's mum had that as a shop for a few years. Mr and Mrs Pullen owned it at the time I am thinking of. Doris must have come in later. I remember Pullens as they had wo vicious 'Staffy' Terriers at the time and if you went in there on Sundays they had all the shelves covered up with news papers to comply with the 'Sunday Law' .

Dr Jolley had a Surgery on Bank Road, he used to have his main one in Snettisham back then. After that Doctors Shaw and Fielding came.

Dr Ansell had his surgery in his house on Sandringham Hill and another in Sandringham. He drove a vintage Bentley. Dr Ansell lived in Wolferton at one time, his spare wheel once fell out of the slot in the back of his car, I found it on the side of the road and took it back to him! He had not noticed that it was missing.

A Jeans shop on Manor Road where the kebab shop is now.

My Grandad had a betting office where the hairdressers was next to what was the bakers on Hunstanton Road.

Hills cycles used to be next to Michael's hairdressers. Then it moved into the shop opposite the old Q8 garage. I think that used to be a material shop or something like that.

Not specifically shops but Phylis Jary who lived in the Old Hall and always had her welly boots on. Judo at the Old hall done by Derek skipper Rodney Saunders and Doug Daniels. Youth club by Maggie and Jack, Terry Finbow along with Adrian Huggins. Cadets done by Will Pratt and Pat Shepard. Mr and Mrs PS Drew windows cleaners with his barrow. Lots of great characters from Dersingham who were around when I grew up.
